Differently Abled
At Summit Careers we realised early on that most of the differently abled students are achievers in their own right. They have the potential to motivate even the ‘abled’ ones! Sometimes with little support, they can qualify for Govt. jobs and become not only financially independent but also bread earners for their family! Both State and Central govt. departments have reserved a percentage of vacancies for DA candidates.
We started our inclusion experiment with visually impaired students. We approached some NGOs working with DA candidates. We joined hands with Mitra Jyothi, one of the finest NGOs for empowering visually impaired students. We started training one batch of their students for Govt. exams. Thanks to technology and tools like NVDA & Jaws, we could see them progressing in a very short time.
Every VI candidate needs a scribe to write the exam. Some of our trained ‘abled’ students came forward and volunteered to be the scribe. The interaction was phenomenal and the results were outstanding. Many of them qualified the prelims, few of them finally made it. Some of them are now working in govt. departments and banks like SBI, Canara Bank etc. and have even been promoted as Managers! They had arrived. We were humbled and experienced a satisfaction of a different level. The scribes were highly moved and motivated by the outcome and they went on to excel in their respective exams. Our experiment was a hit!
We drew more inspiration and went on to join hands with another NGO which works with DA students at a bigger scale – Enable India. We even did outstation training program for their students in North Karnataka. The results were again very encouraging. Some of their batches even trained online during the pandemic and benefitted by our training methodology.
Now we offer similar services for a select category of DA students who are trainable on different subjects for school level, college level and for Competitive exams.
